Sometimes you have to take a step back before you move forward. This thought came to me today while walking to my bus. In the past few years my focus has been on how to get from Point A  to Point B in many aspects of my life. Relationships, career, personal development all find their way on this linear path. Keep moving or get out of the way. Sometimes, however, you keep pushing forward only to find out you need to step back.In the hustle of downtown Minneapolis, sometimes you feel that if you slow down or back up, you might get run over. Everyone seems to have somewhere they needed to be five minutes ago as indicated by the frantic movement and eyes secured to a mobile device. The hurry up then wait culture is fascinating to me. I often find myself involved in the charades. We rush across the street when we maybe should have waited for the light only to find a line at the elevator. We get so involved in the next step of the process and where we go from here that we miss where we came from.We squeeze into the faster lane of traffic only to find that once we get there we are at a standstill. We are challenged to take control of our life and guide ourselves to the top of the mountain only to find what we were looking for is in the foothills. In my quest for greatness, I am challenging myself to slow down. To take a second look at the projects ahead of me. To shorten my stride and make connections I may have previously flown past. Although I continue to push myself forward and grow, sometimes the most benefit can come from taking a step back and just taking it all in.
